Cristina English School is an English school that operates in the village of Bakong, in the outskirts of Siem Reap (Cambodia). Its ultimate goal is to ease the situation of the most disadvantaged children from the countryside and give them a better opportunity in life, by providing them with free English lessons that help them improve their academic preparation and their overall skills, always bearing their future access to the job market in mind. Concurrently to that, having become a meeting point for lots of kids around the area, the project has grown as an important element of social cohesion, after gaining a solid reputation as a safe place for the children to stay while their parents finalize their endless hours of work in the fields or in the markets.

The English lessons organized by Cristina English School are highly appreciated both by the local community and the children themselves, since they have proven to be a very good alternative and an excellent supplement to the regular teaching the kids already get in the public school. The lessons provided by international volunteers at the school have become some serious reinforcement in their learning process, and a highly valuable opportunity for the students to perfect their pronunciation and vocabulary.

Cristina English School is a project of Dream Big Cambodia, a non-profit local organization that is a branch of the Dream Big Association.

Cristina English School is a project that started out on November the 3rd 2015, promoted by a former local NGO named VFRCC (Volunteer For Rural Children of Cambodia). The initiative began with 13 children, 0 volunteers, no infrastructure whatsoever and an absolute lack of school materials. Despite all that, today the project has thrived and transformed itself into a source of warmth and a second home for more than 334 kids living in the area, kept afloat by the altruistic collaboration of volunteers from all over the world who have taken active part and keep participating in the improvement of the children’s skills, be it in what regards language learning or any other area of education. Since September 2019, Dream Big Cambodia has taken the wheel of the project, following the collapse and disappearance of VFRCC.

Thanks to Dream Big Cambodia and Cristina English School the children of Cambodia can keep dreaming big about their future, and it is because of that that we grant them all our support.
